Adoptions

An adoption is the legal process by which an individual gains full parental rights over a minor child. Different than a guardianship, which is intended as a temporary measure, an adoption is permanent. The state recognizes an adoptive parent with the same parental rights as if he or she were the biological parent are a biological parent. The adoption process can be complicated and difficult to navigate. It is essential for a potential adoptive parent to seek the advice of counsel before and during this process.
