Who Pays for Child Support in Nevada?

The payment of child support is calculated based on the timeshare of the child(ren), the number of children, and the income of the parties.

How Much Is Child Support in Nevada?

Nevada calculates child support using a parent's individual gross monthly income. Gross monthly income includes all the income a person brings in each month, including from their salary, bonuses, commission, pension, and other sources.

Gross income is typically calculated before factoring in taxes or personal expenses. Unemployed parents may find child support being deducted from their Social Security, worker's compensation, disability, or unemployment benefits.

Child support is calculated using a formula. The formula considers the number of children, the custody arrangement, and the gross monthly income of one or both parents. If the parties share joint physical custody of their children, both parents’ child support obligation will be calculated, and the higher earning parent will pay the difference in support to the lower earning parent. If one parent has primary physical custody, the parent with primary physical custody will receive child support from the other parent.
